Aleks Terauds

Alex TeraudsAleks Terauds graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Tasmania in 1992. He has worked with the Marine Conservation Unit of Tasmania and spent the next five field seasons working on the four species of albatross on subantarctic Macquarie Island. Between 1996 and 2001 he spent 43 months on the island working from remote field huts.

In January 2002 Aleks began full time work at the Nature Conservation Branch in Tasmania, Australia as a marine biologist. His research on albatrosses culminated in the award winning book, Albatross-Elusive Mariners of the Southern Ocean published by New Holland Publishers in 2005.

Aleks loves to travel and gains employment wherever possible that allows him to see new parts of the world and return to favourites. He is passionate about the subantarctic islands and the conservation issues associated with them, particularly the eradication of feral animals.

Aleks currently spends most of his time between South Africa (where he is working at the Centre for Invasion Biology at the University of Stellenbosch as a Research Associate) and on tourist vessels around the world where he works as a guest lecturer and guide. On the odd occasion that Aleks is not working he is a very keen mountain biker, bushwalker and photographer.
