Mitch Reardon

Mitch ReardonMitch Reardon grew up in Africa where, at an early age, he developed a great love for the natural world.

After travelling widely, he returned to Africa to realise his dream of recording the lives of wild animals and their habitat.

His work as ranger in Namibia's premier national park inspired him to produce his first book, Etosha.

With political instability becoming an increasing concern in Africa, Mitch settles in Australia in 1987.

For most of each year he is on assignment documenting this vast island's often unique wild creatures for magazines and photo libraries that represent his work.

In 1992 he won The National Geographic Best Writer of the Year award and in 1988 won The Australian Writers and Art Directors annual award for Best Short Story.

Mitch on Brolga Country:

"This is a deeply felt book that captures the sights and sounds, the sweeping scale and regional textures of wild Australia in visceral detail. The photographs and text combine to present fascinating facts about the brolga's biology and general behaviour. It makes the case for enlightened co-existence between people and nature at the same time as it conveys its subject's wild grace."
